Adapting the Fashion Business to a new World

Sooner or later, all businesses modeled up to the end of the twentieth century need to be at least revised to take advantage of the current modalities of the digital world and also to stay healthy. Adapting to new tools and changes experienced in the midst of the Spirit of Time that we live in today is an obvious movement that fits into the era of the Digital Revolution.

Rapid and inevitable changes

There are so many revolutions underway in the world today that it is impossible to list them in full stops, but some are clearly laid out there:

E-Commerce - There are so many indicators that point to the growth of the e-commerce market that it is impossible to let it pass by. It is expected that by 2030 (5 years from now) 95% of people will be shopping on electronic platforms. This fact is so important that, although physical and face-to-face businesses are not in prospect of extinction, most of them will go through e-commerce applications and robots. Will there be exceptions? Yes! But these will have their health mediated by digital tools that will continue to inform the public about services and products, location, availability and prices.

E-commerce has been strengthened by the conjunction of several facts:

1.             Increased internet penetration: With more people having access to the internet, especially in emerging markets, the number of online consumers will continue to increase. Currently, about 81% of Brazilians have access to the internet. This number is driven by the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure and the increased use of mobile devices. In 2023, 74% of electronic business carried out in Brazil went through mobile phones.

2.             Improvements in logistics and delivery: Advancements in logistics technologies and faster, more efficient deliveries are the "miracle" of e-commerce. A brief overflight on the E-commerce platforms shows the gigantic evolution of business in the area. In 2023, e-Commerce revenue reached approximately USD 6 trillion, and, until 2027, is expected to continue growing at a rate close to 40%.

3.             Personalization and AI: The use of artificial intelligence to personalize the shopping experience has been increasing customer satisfaction and, consequently, sales. In 2023, marketing campaigns with a direct customer relationship (omnichannel) grew 494% compared to multichannel.

Several sectors take great contributions from these channels, for example fashion with its multifaceted divisions – high-value brands, entrants, experimenters of ideas and products, low and high-volume business models and capital size have launched themselves into the Internet's relationship networks. The fashion sector in E-commerce continues to grow significantly. In 2024, online fashion sales in Brazil are projected to be around R$ 45 million. Worldwide, it should reach USD 800 billion against a total of USD 651 billion in 2023.

And without a doubt, sourcing platforms and e-commerce platforms (marketplaces) are the means of making the product viable for unit sales multiply day by day. It seems impossible to think about the affairs of the world from now on ignoring the clarity of these facts.

And without a doubt, supply platforms and e-commerce platforms (marketplaces) are the most efficient means to enable and multiply unit sales day by day. It seems impossible to think about the affairs of the commercial world from now on ignoring the clarity of these facts.
